California makes it nearly impossible to own a gun. New laws are creating new challenges every year. In 2016 the following major changes to California gun laws were passed:
- SB 1235 Ammunition Background Checks. A new system for collecting information on ammunition sales and licenses for selling ammunition.
- SB 1446 Standard Capacity Magazine Ban – All out ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, even when they were lawfully purchased in California.
- SB 880 Reclassification of so called “assault rifles” – For many years Californians could legally possess AR-style rifles by fixing the magazine with “bullet buttons.” Now these rifles designed specifically for Califonia’s arbitrary gun laws are considered assault rifles. This law may have unintended consequences, so talk with an attorney!
- SB 1407 80% ban – new rules for homemade firearms, such as the 80% receivers.
- AB 1511 Gun Loaning Restrictions – New requirements on who and how frequently guns may be loaned
